Queer in the Archive: The Story of KC Drag

Queer in the Archive: The Story of KC Drag

Remembering our shared past to envision bright futures.

Dig deep into LGBTQIA history through archival research and artifacts in this educational series which connects students with some of the fantastic items preserved in the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America (GLAMA), and through these curated artifacts, the broader history of LGBTQIA experiences in Kansas City.

Join us for "The Story of KC Drag" on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 2:00pm - 3:30pm in Room 325 at Miller Nichols Library. Stuart Hinds, Curator for Special Collections and Archives and GLAMA founder, will share how we are able to trace the evolution of drag performance in Kansas City's history through newspapers, photos, firsthand accounts, and the legacy of venues, organizations, and activists.

Queer in the Archive is a partnership between UMKC LGBTQIA Programs & Services, UMKC University Libraries, and the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America.

This event is free and open to all UMKC students, faculty, and staff as well as the general public.
