Womontown Historic Marker Dedication Ceremony

Womontown Historic Marker Dedication Ceremony

In the early 1990s, scores of lesbians from across the US and around the world joined together to establish “an intentional urban womyn’s community” in midtown Kansas City’s Dutch Hill-Longfellow neighborhood. The Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America (GLAMA) at UMKC Libraries is placing a bronze monument at the site commemorating Womontown’s pivotal role in KC’s LGBT history.

The historic marker dedication ceremony will be held at 27th Terrace and Charlotte Street, Kansas City, MO, from 4pm - 6pm on Thursday, June 13. Event speakers - local political leaders, Womontown’s founders, current and former residents. Performance by Sass-A-Brass Queer Parade Band. Reception to follow the dedication.

This event is free and open to the public.
