Social Justice Book Discussion: How to be an Antiracist

Social Justice Book Discussion: How to be an Antiracist Online

This October, UMKC is holding its 15th annual Social Justice Lecture, and has chosen How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi, as our social justice book for 2020.

UMKC Librarian Tracey Hughes will lead a live, virtual book discussion of Kendi's How to be an Antiracist on October 29 from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. The book combines Kendi’s personal knowledge of racism’s effects with a deeper understanding of its systemic nature, and presents antiracism as not merely a catchphrase, but more accurately, a call to action. The discussion will explore concepts from the book, which is considered "an essential work for anyone who wants to go beyond the awareness of racism to the next step: contributing to the formation of a just and equitable society.”

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Join us!
